Professional Background: Kathy worked 5 years at the Neuse Mental Health Center, has been in private practice since 1993, and has provided clinical supervision for 17 years at Neuse Center, Camp Lejeune, New River Air Station or private practice.
Personal Interests: Addictions treatment, recovery issues, problems resulting from life stressors, motivational enhancement, clarifying faulty thinking


Lori K. Hawkins, M.A.

Professional Background: Lori was in private practice in Clinton, NC for six years. When she moved to New Bern, she worked as a psychologist for the Craven County Schools. She also taught at Craven Community College. Lori joined clinical staff in 2002.
Personal Interests: Lori has special interests in child development, parent training, ADHD,  trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy, autisitic spectrum disorders and study skills enhancement.

Professional Background:  Bethanne has worked as a mental health therapist in a variety of settings since 1992. Her work at that time focused on addiction, codependency, and traumatic brain injury. She joined our clinical staff after completing her pre-doctoral internship in 2004, and joined the partnership in 2008, expanding her practice to include a wide variety of clinical areas. Although she primarily provides clinical services in her private office, Bethanne also provides consultation and supervision to individuals and agencies within the community.
Personal Interests:  Bethanne has interests in family systems and the impact of early family experiences on growth and development. She utilizes an interpersonal theoretical orientation in conjunction with cognitive behavioral techniques. Bethanne has a strong interest in work areas outside of psychotherapy process, offering Personal and Executive Coaching, and supervision of individuals and agency personnel. 



Henry D. Beckwith, Psy.D.

Services Offered:Assessment and treatment services for adolescents, adults, couples, and families; consultation and supervision                                                                                              Education: B.A., Psychology, UNC Wilmington, 1993; M.A., Psychology, Western Carolina University, 1995; Psy.D., Clinical Psychology, The Virginia Consortium Program in Clinical Psychology, 2006; Internship: Carolinas Healthcare; On-going extensive training and supervision at the Family Institute of Virginia in family and individual therapy.
Professional Background: Henry has worked in a variety of public and private settings over the course of his career. Prior to pursuing his doctoral degree, he worked at the former Neuse Center in Pamlico County. Before moving to New Bern in 2008, he worked at Kids Central of the Carolinas. He believes in the importance of on-going training and supervision from seasoned clinicians. He is therefore regularly involved in additional training opportunities and case consultation with other professional clinicians.                                                                                   Personal Interests: Henry has personal interests in family systems theory, individual therapy, and psychological assessment. He believes in the importance of understanding one’s family of origin as an integral component of individual and family therapy. Change comes, however, by focusing on practical, concrete changes in thinking, attitudes, and behavior in the here-and-now. Psychological assessment may also be important in understanding one’s strengths and weaknesses.


 



Kasey A. Melvin, M.A.

Education:  B.A., Mercer College, 1991; M.A., University of South Carolina, 1994
Professional Background:
Kasey previously worked as a staff psychologist at the Children's Developmental Services Agency  providing assessment and consultative services for young children. She is a full time psychology  instructor at Craven Community College.  Kasey joined our staff on a part-time basis in 2001.
Personal Interests:
Kasey has a special interest in the assessment of children ages birth to five years.



Susan M. Ryan, M.A.

Education:  B.A., College of William and Mary, M.A., Appalachian State University, Certificate of Advanced Study, School Psychology, Appalachian State University
Professional Background:
Susan worked as a school psychologist in the Burke County and Craven County Schools for 30 years followed by two years at Camp Lejeune Dependent Schools.  Susan joined our clinical staff on a part-time basis in 2006.
Professional Interests:

 Jean Buck
Office Manager
Services Offered:  Jean manages all administrative functions in the office, including taking referrals, scheduling appointments, purchasing supplies, and overseeing billing and insurance claims. Education:  Pamlico County High School, 1970; Attended Pamlico Community College; Attended Craven Community College
Professional Background:
Jean has been our office manager since 2001. Before joining our staff, she worked for eleven years as administrative assistant to the executive director of the New Bern Historical Society. Jean enjoys cooking, gardening and spending time with her family.
